How it ends

Tolly documents his encounter with the Thuggee. Hadderly has him kidnapped, intending to kill him after making sure there are no other copies in existence. Theresa realises something is wrong and, while trying to locate Tolly, discovers the entrance to the Adventurers’ Club. With the help of Sommerset, her brother-in-law and Montrose, she rescues Tolly. With the publication of his account, Tolly’s reputation is restored and eventually he gains enough use of his leg to dance with Theresa.

Last words

‘What shall we do this evening, my love?’ he repeated, gazing down at her as he took her hand and brought it to his lips. ‘I think we should waltz.’

FYI

  • The heroine has modern sensibilities
  • Lots of premarital sex
  • Bradshaw Carroway, youngest brother of Lord Dare and Bit Carroway (heroes from the Lessons in Love series), is the newest member of the Adventurers’ Club
